Terms of Service

Last updated: July 2026

By downloading, installing, or using YourKeep, you agree to these Terms of Service.

1. About YourKeep

YourKeep is a local-first backup application designed to help users securely encrypt, split, store, and recover their own data.

YourKeep is designed so that users remain in control of their own encrypted data at all times.

2. License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use YourKeep in accordance with these Terms.

Unless otherwise stated, purchasing a license grants the right to use the software—it does not transfer ownership of the software or its intellectual property.

3. Your Responsibilities

You are solely responsible for:

  • Protecting your encryption password
  • Keeping sufficient backup fragments
  • Choosing reliable storage locations
  • Verifying your backups when appropriate

Because YourKeep uses end-to-end encryption and a zero-knowledge architecture, we cannot recover lost passwords, encryption keys, or backup fragments.

4. Zero-Knowledge Architecture

YourKeep is intentionally designed so that we cannot access your protected files.

We do not possess any master key, recovery key, or backdoor capable of decrypting your backups.

If recovery information is lost, your data may become permanently unrecoverable.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the software for unlawful purposes.
  • Attempt to bypass licensing or activation mechanisms.
  • Reverse engineer or modify the software except where permitted by applicable law or the software license.
  • Distribute malware or use YourKeep to facilitate illegal activity.

6. Updates

We may release updates, bug fixes, security improvements, and new features.

Some updates may be required to maintain compatibility or security.

7. Open Source Components

YourKeep may include open-source software licensed under their respective licenses.

Ownership and licensing of those components remain with their original authors.

8. Disclaimer of Warranty

YourKeep is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

We do not guarantee that the software will operate without interruption, error, or data loss under all circumstances.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, YourKeep and its contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from the use of the software.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Loss of files
  • Loss of encrypted backups
  • Loss of passwords
  • Business interruption
  • Loss of profits

10. Termination

These Terms remain in effect until terminated.

We may suspend or terminate access to license activation services if these Terms are materially violated.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws applicable to the jurisdiction in which YourKeep operates, unless otherwise required by applicable consumer protection laws.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time.

Continued use of YourKeep after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
