Recovery Guide
Restore your protected files using your recovery password and backup fragments.
Before You Begin
To recover your data, you will need:
- Your recovery password
- The required backup fragments
- YourKeep (or any compatible recovery implementation)
YourKeep cannot recover a forgotten recovery password. There are no master keys or backdoors.
Recovery Process
Step 1
Collect Your Backup Fragments
Retrieve the backup fragments from the storage locations you originally selected. Examples include:
- Google Drive
- Dropbox
- OneDrive
- iCloud Drive
- USB drives
- NAS
Step 2
Open Recovery
Launch YourKeep and choose Recover Backup. Select the backup fragments when prompted.
Step 3
Enter Your Recovery Password
Enter the recovery password you created when the backup was generated.
Your password is used only on your local device to decrypt your backup.
Step 4
Choose a Destination
Select where the recovered files should be written. To avoid accidental overwrites, we recommend restoring into a new folder first.
Step 5
Verify Your Files
After recovery completes, confirm that your important files can be opened correctly.
Troubleshooting
Missing Backup Fragments
Recovery may still be possible depending on your backup configuration. If insufficient fragments are available, recovery cannot be completed.
Incorrect Password
Double-check your recovery password. Passwords are case-sensitive.
Corrupted Fragment
Replace the damaged fragment with another valid copy from your backup locations.
Best Practices
- Test recovery regularly.
- Keep multiple copies of important fragments.
- Store your recovery password separately.
- Verify every new backup before relying on it.
